Our History

Sustainable Ramona was formed by community members who share a deep appreciation for Ramona’s land, rural character, and natural beauty, along with a commitment to protecting it for future generations.

How It Began

Sustainable Ramona grew out of conversations among residents who recognized that environmental challenges such as wildfire risk, water availability, land use, and energy needs were increasingly shaping life in the region.

Rather than approaching these issues in the abstract, the founding members believed that local solutions, informed by education and collaboration, were the most effective path forward.

What began as a small, volunteer-driven effort gradually evolved into a nonprofit organization supporting education, outreach, and community-centered initiatives.

Growing Through Education & Events

As Sustainable Ramona grew, education and public engagement became central to its work. The organization began hosting workshops, seminars, and community conversations designed to make sustainability approachable and relevant to everyday life in Ramona.

One of the most visible expressions of this mission is the annual Ramona Earth Day Festival, which brings together residents, local businesses, nonprofits, educators, artists, and volunteers for a free, family-friendly day of learning and connection.

The festival has become a cornerstone event, celebrating practical solutions, local creativity, and the shared responsibility of caring for the place we call home.

Community Collaboration

Over time, Sustainable Ramona has worked alongside local organizations, educators, artists, and civic groups to support initiatives related to:

  • Environmental education
  • Wildlife and habitat awareness
  • Water conservation and land stewardship
  • Renewable energy and climate resilience
  • Waste reduction and recycling

This collaborative approach reflects the belief that sustainability is strongest when it is community-led and locally grounded.

Looking Ahead

Today, Sustainable Ramona continues to evolve as new opportunities and challenges emerge. With the support of volunteers, partners, and community members, the organization is expanding its work through grant-funded programs and long-term planning efforts focused on resilience and sustainability in Ramona.

While the tools and programs may grow, the core purpose remains the same:
to bring people together, share knowledge, and support thoughtful action that benefits both the environment and the community.
